Patna: Rival gang members in Patna on Monday evening clashed with each other near ITI gate under Digha police station forcing the police to use light force in which at least half a dozen people were injured.
The incident occurred around 5:00 pm during the distribution of flood relief check in Ward Number 11 and 12. Officials were handing out checks of Rs. 6,000 to the flood victims when a group of around 50 people arrived and demanded flood relief checks from them.
A second group in the area objected to it and soon a clash erupted with people from one group hitting those from the other group and the entire area suddenly turned into a battle zone with people throwing rocks, bricks, and empty bottles at each other causing injury to many people, some just innocent by-standers.
Sensing trouble brewing, someone called the police who resorted to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. They also launched several tear gas shells and summoned anti-riot vehicle to control the mob.
With police swinging batons, the crowd ran helter-skelter and after more than half an hour, the situation was finally brought under control.
The criminals, however, under the cover of darkness, managed to give slip to the police.
Security has been beefed up in the area as police search for the criminals.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
