Patna: In a major embarrassment to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who prides himself as the paragon of law and order, Nawada legislator and rape accused Raj Ballabh Yadav, three days after receiving bail from Patna High Court, met with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav at his residence reportedly to use his political clout to avoid being sent back to jail.
As recalled, Raj Ballabh Yadav was expelled from the RJD shortly after the news of the rape of a underage girl in Nalanda district surfaced last February resulting in his arrest.
Spending nearly two hours within closed door with the RJD chief, sources said the legislator was seeking Yadav's help in avoiding being sent back to jail like yet another RJD leader/criminal Mohammed Shahabuddin whose freedom outside the jail also did not last too long after the Supreme Court cancelled his bail.
The Supreme Court, at the behest of the Nitish government that is seeking cancellation of his bail, is scheduled to hear Raj Ballabh Yadav's case on Friday.
With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders seizing the opportunity to criticize the Chief Minister, both RJD and Janata Dal – U leaders tried to undermine the meeting between the two Yadavs saying it was merely a courtesy call and not much should be read into it.
"Even Amit Shah, who is accused in many cases, meets with Prime Minister Narendra Modi so what is wrong in Raj Ballabh Yadav meeting with my father," said Tejaswi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister and the son of Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Ironically, the RJD chief himself is out on bail for his involvement in the multi-crore rupees fodder scam case that took place in the '90s.
