Rajgir: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar reserved the last day of the 3-day convention in Rajgir to bash Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) asking the people of Bihar to be very 'wary' of the nefarious designs of the saffron party and remain steadfast on the party's resolve to offer a strong alternative to the BJP in the next Parliamentary elections.

Speaking at the convention on Monday, Kumar threw plenty of red meat before a fawning audience by raking up issues from the past like 'Love Jihad', 'Ghar Wapasi', 'Cow Protection', validity of 'talaq', Common Civil Code, and Article 370 to charge up the crowd.

"BJP is trying its best to foment communal unrest in India to remain in power. This is very dangerous for India. We, on the other hand, are concerned with the plights of the farmers, students, women's right, and employment issues that will help strengthen the nation. We are an 'inclusive' party and not 'exclusive' like the BJP," the Chief Minister said.

Continuing his assault on the NDA, Kumar said that the BJP was thriving only on the basis of propaganda. "The country has gone to the dogs under NDA. Its leaders talk about 7% growth rate but there is no sign of development. The Prime Minister talked about providing employment to two crore people each year but there is no indication he has kept his promise," he said.

Kumar, however, indicated he was open to suggestion on prohibition laws 'if the majority of the people felt it was too tough in its current form'.

"If one thinks that the prohibition laws are too tough then I welcome their suggestions. However, if you think that I am going to withdraw prohibition from Bihar then you are sadly mistaken," he said.

The Chief Minister who has skillfully used the Muslim vote in Bihar to strengthen his position while his current political ally and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President Lalu Prasad Yadav was cooling his heels in Jharkhand jail, avoided the current debate on the validity of divorce in the Muslim community that allows a man to divorce his wife by merely uttering the word 'talaq', or divorce, three times.

"This is an issue that the Muslim community will have to settle itself. BJP's intention is not good but I believe every religion has the right to formulate its own rules or policies," Kumar said.

Party state President Vashisht Narayan Singh, national general secretary K. C. Tyagi, Sharad Yadav, and several other JD-U leaders also spoke on the occasion.
