Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday inaugurated the day-long Bihar Kala Diwas at the Adhiweshan Bhawan to celebrate art and culture of Bihar while also reiterating the accomplishments of his government including introduction of prohibition in Bihar and other social projects.

Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said that while Bihar had always been the hub of national politics, it never was a part of any social movement which is what he was trying to usher in the state by imposing prohibition and providing bicycles and school uniform to girl students.

"Bihar had always been the seat of political power in its thousands of years of glorious history. We can see its genetic impact even now when even those living in remote villages talk about politics with ease. However, there has never been a social movement in Bihar. Most movements have been concentrated in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, etc. I am trying to change this with the power trusted in me by the voters of Bihar," he said.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister honored 65 artists from across the state with the 'Bihar Kala Puraskar'.

Kumar also talked about the new museum being built in Patna and the celebration being planned for the 100th anniversary of the finding of 'Yakshini' - a 3rd century statue dating back to 3rd Century BCE found in Deedarganj in Patna in 1917.

The Chief Minister further said that the Art and Culture department of the Nitish administration was working on a program called 'Walk for Bihar' that would feature 25 world famous artists from around the globe. Artists will create paintings on prominent walls across the state to promote the rich cultural aspects of the state.

Later, visitors were treated with a colorful cultural program that was kicked off by none other than Patna's very own folk singer Sharda Sinha who enthralled the audience with her songs followed by a dance by 'Surangan' and Sufi songs by the Khan Brothers.
