Patna: With temperature dipping to 14.6º Celsius on Saturday, the coldest day of the season so far, life in the state capital came to a virtual standstill as people were forced to remain indoors under blankets with portable heaters running nearly all day to keep things warm.
As if falling temperature, apparently caused by the Ciclone Vardah in the Bay of Bengal, was not bad enough, light drizzle coupled with dense fog in the morning hours completed the picture of a dull, gloomy day with very light traffic on the streets.
Things were equally bad in other parts of the state including in Gaya where the thermometer could barely crack 16 º Celsius.
Similar condition is expected to continue for the next 4-5 days, weather officials in Patna said adding at some places, temperature could dip below 4 º Celsius in the coming days.
"People should exercise extreme precautions to avoid becoming a victim of the cold wave and they should try to remain indoors unless it is absolutely unavoidable," said a weatherman.
Meanwhile, due to intense fog several planes were delayed at the Patna Airport. Landings did not begin until noon when the fog finally cleared. GoAir flight from Bangalore was delayed by about 15 minutes while an Air India flight from Delhi landed at Patna Airport about 22 minutes behind its schedule. Indigo flight from New Delhi, however, was delayed by over two and a half hours due to the ripple effects of delays at other airports, officials said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
