Patna: The ongoing saga of protesting students being thrashed by police continues in Patna as dozens of students demanding re-evaluation of their answer papers were once again at the receiving end as cops rained batons on them on Buddha Marg near Patna Planetarium not too far from the Intermediate Council office.
With student wings of various political parties clamoring for attention in a highly-charged political atmosphere in Bihar where education, in the wake of a series of scandals, has become the biggest victim of the government failure, police chased and attacked activists belonging to nearly half a dozen outfits including the All India Students Federation (AISF), All India Students Association (AISA), All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO), All India Youth Federation (AIYF), and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) who had come out in support of the protesting students.
Several people were hurt in the incident and many were detained for assaulting law enforcement officials.
Police, despite pictures from today's incident, denied having attacked students saying all they were trying to do was to remove the blockade that the protestors had created on Buddha Marg and on the busy Bailey Road.
"Not one student was hurt in the incident and those who are claiming their arms were broken or sustained other wounds already had injuries on their bodies. All we did was remove the blockade so the traffic could start moving again," DSP (Law and Order) Shibli Nomani said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
