Patna: Writers, journalists, teachers, artists, and social workers in Patna on Wednesday held a rally at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk to protest the murder of noted journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Lankesh, a left-leaning journalist, was gunned down in Bangalore by four men who followed her to her home in Rajeshwari Nagar area. She was hit at least three times causing instant death.
Condemning the murder, those taking part in today's rally blamed the Narendra Modi government for trying to eliminate all those who held different ideology that did not conform to the current administration.
Communist Party of India (ML) state Secretary Kunal said that there was no doubt Gauri Lankesh was murdered by the same forces that killed Narendra Dabholkar, an anti-superstition crusader in Maharashtra; M M Kulbargi, the former Vice Chancellor of Hampi University and a well-known Kannad writer, and Govind Pansare, an influential communist leader and an associate of Dabholkar.
Comparing the current situation with the Emergency days of the '70s, the protestors said that all those activists who were opposed to the Sangh ideology were being systematically killed by the communal forces with its power base in New Delhi.
"We need to come together and oppose this force with full might before it destroys the basic secular structure of the country," Kunal said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
