Shortly after, all six became tired and full of sweat so they decided to take a dip in the river. However, two of them got swept away in the strong current. In an attempt to save them and pull them to safety, four men went after them only to be swept away by the current not to be seen again.

Some people in the area informed the police who summoned speed boats and divers to rescue the victims but they came out empty-handed. Soon a team of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) jawans also searched for the victims but without any luck.

The victims, all residents of Maner, were identified as Ankit Kumar (father's name Purushottam Sharma), Harsh Kumar (son of Arun Sharma), Rajesh Kumar (son of Ranjit Sharma), Roshan Kumar (son of Nath Sharma, Manish Kumar (son of Raj Kumar Sharma), and Sonu Kumar whose father's name was not readily available.
