Patna: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dr. C. P. Thakur, taking umbrage of the draconian laws pertaining to dowry as proposed by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, said that while he agreed with the anti-dowry and anti-child marriage campaign, he feared the tough anti-dowry acts could be abused by some people who wished to get even with their spouse for whatever reasons.
"I am all in favor of eradicating dowry from our society but one must not forget that the tough law could become an effective tool to settle score by a disgruntled wife or her family members. If allowed to become a law, many innocent people will be spending their lives in jails," the former Central Minister said.
Dr. Thakur further said that there had been hundreds of cases when it turned out charges against the husband or his family members were absolutely wrong and the wife fabricated the entire dowry allegations to get even with her husband or his family.
The BJP leader also slammed the Nitish administration for trying to kill the sand business in the guise of putting an end to corruption related to the mining industry.
"The misguided policies of the government has put hundred of thousands of workers out of job. This is not good for the working-class people of Bihar," Thakur said urging the Chief Minister to reconsider his sand mining policies.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
