Patna: High Court Chief Justice Rajendra Menon, at a simple ceremony at the Raj Bhawan in Patna on Wednesday, administered the oath of secrecy to senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Satya Pal Malik as the 38th Governor of Bihar.
The ceremony lasted about 15 minutes during which Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh read the President's notification on Malik's appointment and the Governor's Chief Secretary Brajesh Mehrotra urged the Chief Justice to start the oath ceremony.
The oath ceremony began at 10:05 am. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar arrived at the Governor's mansion seven minutes before the event and the Chief Justice made his entrance 10 minutes before the scheduled time.
Besides Kumar, a number of his cabinet members, and senior NDA leaders were among those present on the occasion as were the Urban Improvement Trust (Barmer, Rajasthan) Chairperson Dr. Priyanka Chowdhary, Jainarayan University (Jodhpur) Vice Chancellor Dr. R P Singh, Jodhpur District Chief Chowdhary Puna Ram, and Patna University Senators Pappu Verma and Mukesh Kumar.
Interestingly, not a single member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) was present at the oath ceremony of Bihar's new Governor. Barring legislator Ramchandra Bharti, no other leader from the Congress Party was also present on the occasion.
As soon as the formalities were completed, leaders made a beeline to congratulate the Governor. His predecessor and West Bengal counterpart Keshari Nath Tripathi also met with him and wished him the best in both his personal and professional endeavors.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
