Patna: Central Minister for Petroleum and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday took part in the foundation day program of the Bihar Chambers of Commerce and Industries at Bihar Industries Association meeting hall where he talked on the issue of GST and how it was changing the nation for the better.

Pradhan, dispelling allegations of economy stalling in the wake of the demonetization and implementation of GST, said that the Modi administration had put several measures in place and had introduced a number of schemes that were certain to give a boost to the economy benefitting all sections of the society as opposed to only the top few percent of the population.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader met with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and asked him to cut Value Added Tax (VAT) by 5% on petroleum products in Bihar.

"To help out the consumers, the Government of India has reduced excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs. 2 per liter. Now I am appealing to all state governments to cut VAT by 5%. State governments collect VAT between 16 and 47 percent. If this could be reduced by 5%, it would help the state tremendously," Pradhan told the Chief Minister.

The Union Minister also discussed the implementation of the ambitious Prime Minister Urja Ganga Yojana under which cooking gas would be supplied to each household through pipelines.

"Initially this scheme would be introduced as a pilot project in a chosen district but later it will be expanded in other districts as well," he said.
