Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while addressing a gathering of over 2,000 farmers from across the state at the Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna on Saturday, said that nearly one-third of the Rs. 28,000 crore of the fiscal year 2012-13 would be spent on schemes as detailed in the agricultural road map prepared by the state government.
"Bihar will script a new story of its agricultural renaissance between the year 2012 and 2022 for which the government would spend in excess of Rs. 10,000 crore. I will need both your opinions and suggestions to attain this goal," the Chief Minister told the attendees.
The Chief Minister also lauded Bihar farmers for making the state number one in honey production.
Mangla Rai, the Chief Minister's chief advisor on agriculture, said that Bihar was blessed with huge water resource that was conducive to better fishery environment.
"Efforts are being made to increase fish productivity in the state and with sound plans in place, it would not be an exaggeration to say that soon Bihar would be exporting more fish than it is importing right now," Rai said adding with the Chief Minister's Rural Seeds Program, improved and hybrid varieties of seeds are being given to Bihar farmers who would be able to raise their productivity while also increasing their bottom line.
Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh, and Agriculture Production Commissioner A. K. Sinha were among many others who also spoke on the occasion.
