Patna: Amarendra Pratap Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, on Tuesday was elected unanimously as the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijendra Prasad Yadav formally proposed the name of Singh and Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary announced his election unopposed.
Singh was congratulated by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, Leader of opposition in the State Assembly Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Congress Legislature Party leader Sadanand Singh, and leaders from other parties.
Siddiqui said Singh had the support of the entire opposition who would cooperate with him in running the Assembly business.
