Prison officers demand armed security following threat by imprisoned criminals.
Patna: Afraid of their and their family members' lives, two prison doctors and an assistant jailor in Patna on Monday met with City Superintendent of Police (SP) and asked him to provide armed security to them following a number of threats from criminals currently under incarceration.
Dr. Vijay Kumar Chowdhary who was recently transferred to the Beur Jail from Sasaram, Dr. Nazir Imam, and Assistant Jailor Bijendra Kumar Rai told the Jayant Kant, SP, that criminal activities inside the jail has gone up in recent days.
"We are under pressure to do illegal things for the criminals and if we don't comply with their demands, we face imminent threat from them," said Dr. Chowdhary.
"It is becoming increasingly difficult to perform our duties under these circumstances and it would be of great help if we were provided armed security both within the jail and at our residences," said Rai.
The SP has assured them of looking into their request and take proper steps as needed.
