Patna: A married woman, after failing to attract the attention of the state's Commission for Women, consumed poison with intent to commit suicide right before the Patna police control room on Wednesday.
As reported, Vaishakhi Prasad, age 24, earlier approached the Women's Commission to file complaints about her husband and in-laws for inflicting mental torture on her. However, due to typical red-tape involving some forms, the woman was turned down by them.
On Wednesday Vaishakhi arrived at the police control room office and consumed some form of poison.
She was rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) where she was treated and then released.
Chandramukhi Devi, a Women's Commission member, said that the woman came with a hand-written note of complaint but she was told to fill out a form and come back with it.
"Had we known that she would take such extreme step, we would have tried to help her" she said.
