Patna: Police in Patna, under Shastri Nagar police station on Friday, arrested five men, including a youth who claims to be the nephew of a Jharkhand legislator, for gang-raping a 19-year old girl from Uttar Pradesh.
City Superintendent of Police (SP) Jayant Kant, at a press conference, said that a police patrol team found a girl wandering on the street in a confused and dazed state at around 5:00 am. When they questioned her who she was and what was she doing so early in the morning, she said that she was gang-raped by three men on late Thursday night.
Upon further interrogation, the girl said that she was from Uttar Pradesh and two men on bikes picked her up from Patna Junction promising to give her a job. She was brought to a house in Shastri Nagar where three men raped her while the other two left after leaving her with them.
Based on the information provided by the girl, police raided a house in West Patel Nagar and arrested three men who were identified as Neeraj Kumar, a nephew of Rajendra Singh, a Jharkhand MLA; and Purushottam and Tulsi Rout – both caretakers of the building. At their behest, authorities also arrested two men, Ranjit Kumar and Ravi Kumar, who had picked up the girl from Patna Junction.
The SP said that initially the girl was not revealing her true identity or her permanent address, however, after repeated questioning; she gave her real name and told the police that she was from Chandauli district in Uttar Pradesh.
UP police said that the girl was reported missing four days ago and a case of missing person was filed by her family members.
