Patna: On the opening day of the winter session of Bihar Assembly on Thursday, leaders paid tributes to politicians and other famous personalities who passed away in the last few month.
Among those who were remembered by the Chief Minister, members of the Cabinet, legislators, and the leaders of the opposition parties included Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kailashpati Mishra, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan Janata Dal – U leader Ramsevak Hazari, Father of the White Revolution Dr. Verghese Kurien, and noted film-maker Yash Chopra.
Eulogy for Thackeray was offered by Bihar Legislative Council Chairperson Awadhesh Narayan Singh. The House also observed a one-minute silence in respect of the departed souls.
Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary also paid tributes to the 17 people who died during a stampede at Adalatganj Ghat in Patna during Chhath celebration on November 19.
Besides Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, leader of the opposition and RJD leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui were among many who were present on the occasion.
The Assembly was adjourned after the condolences.
