gandhigandhiPatna: Leaders in Bihar on Saturday paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi to mark his 62nd death anniversary by hosting a number of events across the state and by pledging to keep his dreams alive and follow on his ideals.

At Patna's Gandhi Ghat, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other NDA leaders placed flowers at the shrine of Mahatma Gandhi amidst a police salute and two-minute silence in respect of the leader who steered India out of the British rule without resorting to violence.

Kumar also directed the District Magistrate and Patna Commissioner to ensure beautification of the Gandhi Ghat and also impose a ban on the immersion of idols during major religious festivals in an attempt to keep the ghat clean and peaceful.

Similar events were organized by other political parties including the Congress that held a function at Sadaqat Ashram and the Human Rights Protection Organization where former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra presided over the function.

At schools across the state capital, programs including bhajans and re-enactment of Bapu's assassination were held to reignite the spirit of the Mahatma that he stood for and for which he ultimately sacrificed his life.
