kalamkalamGaya: Former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, while inaugurating the 3rd Bihar Science Congress in Gaya on Thursday, once again enunciated the need for the development of a river water management policy to deal with the annual flood that Bihar is cursed with.

With a smart water management policy that takes all the rivers and canals in the state into account, Bihar not only can manage the flood, it can also manage the resource in a more effective manner, the President said.

Mr. Kalam further said that Bihar could benefit from its water resources that, if properly managed, could prove to be a boon in combating electricity crunch in the state.

"There is no shortage of water in Bihar and when harnessed in a scientific manner, it can solve many of its problems including irrigation, power, and a developed water transport system," the former President said.

The President said he was very delighted to be in Gaya that gifted Buddhism to the world.

"Bodh Gaya has been shining as a knowledge center even 2550 years ago and that gave the philosophy of life: the importance of reasoning and deciding, and what is right and wrong. The Science Conference will certainly enhance the scientific and technological strength of scientific community assembled here," he said.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar who received the President at Patna Airport, also attended the meeting.

As this Nitish government seems to be doing many good things, are they thinking on any such thing as one of the greatest has said about "Water Resourse Management". Do we have any management guru who can solve this problem for once and all? Beside government to plan out for anything and actually put it into working, every citizen should take this responsibility to keep the mother river "Ganga" clean. I personally feel if we could succeed in keeping Ganga clean, our state would prosper like anything. Let's start some social drive on this. PatnaDaily.com is already doing a great job in keeping people aware about the things going-on in Bihar. It's my suggestion to start some online drive on this issue and lets get together to work towards it. Thanks Mr Kalam for talking about such a big thing. It's on the citizens to work out on it.

Dr. Kalam has struck the right note. This is one of the prime resources to be tapped to advantage. On that I feel strongly about is human resources. This is a wonderful resource that has not been properly utilized. Once in a while leaders come to Bihar and exploit it to their own advantage, which is pernicious to the health of Bihar. They expect that every child from Bihar should join politics, and that too a particular party. This is a strange doctrine, which should be discouraged. An intellectual like Dr.Kalam is more welcome than some political leaders that come to Bihar as migratory birds, for merely foraging and mesmerizing youth.
