RJD Activist; Three Girls Shot Dead in Gopalganj District
Gopalganj: December 27, 2005
Heavily armed criminals with personal vendetta against a Gopalganj Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader opened indiscriminate fire at the leader killing him on the spot while also killing three girls at Sonaula village in the district, the police in Patna said.
According to the report, four men equipped with assault rifles and guns arrived at a construction site where the RJD leader Jai Prakash Yadav was supervising a project under the Prime Minister's Gramin Sadak Yojana. Within seconds, the men opened several rounds of fire with intent to kill the RJD leader.
Yadav was hit several times and was killed on the spot. However, three girls whose identities remain unresolved, also were killed by flying bullets.
Five others on the construction site were critically injured and were taken to a local hospital.
Contract mafia operating in the area is believed to be behind the killing of Yadav and the three innocent girls.
Raids are on to apprehend the killers while security has been heightened in fear of retaliation by Yadav's supporters.
