Gangsters Mow Down Magadh University College in Gaya

Gaya: August 2, 2005

Bulldozer-riding members of a powerful land mafia in Gaya's Ganga Mahal area on late Sunday night leveled the building of the Chandra Shekhar Singh Janata College, a Magadh University affiliate, to ground while also abducting three college employees, including the night watchman, the Gaya police said on Monday.

According to the report, a local gangster with strong ties with a major political party whose name the police refused to reveal for obvious reasons, brought in a bulldozer and other land-moving machinery and demolished the entire building before taking away the night watchman Jairam Singh, his son Devendra Singh and another college employee.

The college was situated on a land measuring roughly 54 katthas in area and some local goons had been on the prowl to grab the land because of its commercial value, the police said.

Sunil Kumar, DIG, Magadh range, has ordered an FIR in the case and has launched an investigation to nab the criminals and free the three hostages.
