Bihar: Always the Bridesmaid; Never the Bride
Patna: May 19, 2005
First it was an IIT-like engineering college in Patna, now comes an IIM-type management school in the state after the people in power, both at state and central level, decided to provide a National Institute of Management (NIM) reaching a deal with the state-owned Educational Consultants India Ltd.
State Chief Secretary K. A. H. Subramanian, while talking to reporters in Patna, said that the new Business school will be in the league of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and would become operational from 2006.
The cost to set up the NIM would be in the range of Rs. 100 lakh, the Chief Secretary said adding it would have all the training facilities that the IIM offers. The state government has also agreed to provide 30 acres of land to set up the school.
As reported before, the Chief Secretary has already announced setting up of a BIT in Patna near Phulwari Sharif though all these plans are still in its infancy and until they actually take physical shape, their future may very well depend on the policies of the current and future government.
The news, nevertheless, was received with joy by many young students in Patna. "Though we would have liked to have an IIM in Bihar, NIM would also not be bad for us," said Sudhir Kumar, a B. N. College student.

Opening Branch of BIT Mesra , changing status of Patna University into Central University are some of the long awaited decision taken by the present govt. The demand of IIT in Bihar and the Plan for IIM type Business school earlier at Fatuha and now in the different name called NIM are laudable because these decisions, by any way would help younger generation to build their career strong and in this way people from other states and countries will also come. Nobody will give his vote against this decision.
