"We Have Support of 20 LJP MLAs", Says Rebel LJP Leader
Patna: May 22, 2005
The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) rebel leader Nagmani who walked away from the party accusing the party president and Union Steel Minister Ram Vilas Paswan for not aligning with the Janata Dal (U) to form a government in Bihar, in an interview on Saturday said he had the support of at least 20 LJP MLAs who were willing to break away from the party and join hands with Nitish Kumar.
"Our goal is to install a non-Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) government in Bihar headed by the JD-U leader Nitish Kumar. When the time is right, these 20 MLAs will not hesitate in walking out of the LJP," Nagmani said.
"If required, we will even consider merging with the JD-U to avoid being scrutinized under the nation's anti-defection laws," the former Union Minister said giving hope to the JD-U that has been accused by the Governor Buta Singh of engaging in horse-trading involving LJP MLAs.
"The NDA has 92 MLAs and with the breakaway LJP group, 17 Independents, BSP and other smaller parties, I don't think reaching the required number to form a popular government in Bihar would be a tough task," said Nagmani.
None of the LJP MLAs wants to go through another election in Bihar. "People are simply not going to accept us. With Paswan failing to forge a coalition government in spite of his several formulas, we don't have any choice left except leave the party," he said.

My response is to a number of news items combined.
Biharis are not responsible for the mess Bihar is in but the whole country is. It is a shame that politics has gone to the the lowest level even under the leadership of a person like Dr Manmohan Singh. A person who taught us to be upright citizens cannot be bothered about Bihar. It is a sad time for Bihar. We know how his policies have helped make India into what it is today economically, why should he allow Lalu, Buta, R am B nexus to continue? The Biharis have helped the Indian economy in a variety of ways, isn't it time that something is done for them at a time when opportunity is there. This piece of news like others appears just a joke. No one is interested in this place, Have we become the lepers of biblical times in the Indian politics that no one wants to know about this place and its 80 million people? People sit in Delhi and Mumbai and very proudly talk about the backwardness, crime etc but when a time has come to help, no one cares. The whole country should take the blame for the mess that it is in today. Oh, if only we had a magic wand! That appears to be the only solution now!! Manoj Jha - May 23, 2005 |
