NDA Trying to Rig Elections with the Help of EC: Lalu
Patna: November 7, 2005
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, accusing the state administration and the Election Commission (EC) of trying to help the NDA win state elections in Bihar, said that NDA would never be able to realize its dream of coming into power in Bihar even with the help of EC or state officials.
"No party can come into power with the help of administrators. If that had been the case, the RJD would not have come into power in 1990," Yadav said on Sunday evening while talking to reporters.
"When I came into power, I got rid of all the feudal officers and replaced them with honest but sidelined officers. Now the same people are trying to ambush me to wrestle power away from the poor and backwards," he said.
The Railway Minister also extended his unflinching faith in the External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh and called the Volcker report baseless and a 'pack of lies'.
"Natwar Singh should not resign based on a report that has no credibility in the first place. The NDA's demand for his resignation is absurd because all the NDA wants is to railroad the UPA government," Yadav said.
Janata Dal (U) leader Nitish Kumar, who was campaigning in Champaran, agreed with Yadav, sort of, saying the RJD chief actually meant to say that no party could come into power because of help from the administration but could only come into power because of criminal muscle power. "Who would know better than the RJD president who is known to such tactics," he said.
