BJP Leader and Former I&B Minister Shot At in Rohtas District

In a still breaking news, senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ravi Shankar Prasad was shot at by unidentified gunmen at a party election meeting in Sasaram on Thursday, officials said.

The attack took place at the NDA rally at Nokha, about 22 kilometers from Sasaram in Rohtas district, Rohtas District Magistrate Vivek Singh said.

According to the still breaking report, the gunman shot two fires at Prasad and party general secretary Pramod Mahajan. While party activists pushed Mahajan on the ground to prevent the bullet from hitting him, another bullet struck Prasad on his hand. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was advised to go to Patna.

The former minister was then air-lifted to Patna in a helicopter where he was received by a prominent doctor and rushed to a private clinic on Khajanchi Road.

Despite profuse bleeding, Prasad is said to be out of danger.

Another party MLA Rameshwar Prasad Chaurasia was also injured in the attack though the details are still sketchy.

Unconfirmed reports said at least one of the gunmen was caught by the crowd and lynched on the spot.
