Ravi Shankar Admitted to AIIMS

New Delhi: October 8, 2005

Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ravi Shankar Prasad, who escaped an assassination attempt in Rohtas district on Thursday, was flown to New Delhi and was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at the recommendation of his doctor Narendra Prasad in Patna.

Prasad who was accompanied by his wife, sister, and brother-in-law Rajiv Shukla, the Congress MP, was taken to the AIIMS where he is expected to undergo an operation to ensure no pellet were still lodged in his arm.

Throughout the day, the BJP leader was paid visits by a number of leaders including the party president and former Deputy Prime Minister L. K. Advani, senior party leader Sushma Swaraj, Murli Manohar Joshi, and Delhi party president Harsh Vardhan.

Prasad also received calls from the Uttaranchal Chief Minister N. D. Tiwari, Tamil Nadu CM Jailalitha, Jammu and Kashmir CM Faroukh Abdullah, film stars Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Yash Chopra, and Anupam Kher.

The BJP leader is under the care of AIIMS director Dr, Venu Gopal.

Earlier, several prominent leaders including the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh, Congress leader and Home Minister Shivraj Patil called Prasad's residence in Patna and talked to his mother wishing a fast recovery for her son.
