Train Derails in West Champaran District; 24 Hurt

More than two dozen passengers were reported injured when the engine and two bogies of 273 Narkatiaganj-Bhikhanathori passenger train under East-Central Railways derailed near Narkatiaganj in West Champaran district on Monday evening.

According to the railway sources, the locomotive jumped off the track hardly a few kilometers from the Narkatiaganj station. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals where conditions of five passengers are said to be critical.

A rescue and recovery train along with a medical team was rushed to the accident site from Samastipur.

The cause of derailment is not known yet. The railways has launched an internal enquiry into the incident.
