Accused IPS Officer Moves High Court for Security Enhancement

Patna: April 20, 2006

Amitabh Kumar Das, IPS officer and the current Commandant of Bihar Military Police posted in Jamui, on Wednesday, filed a writ petition in the Patna High Court seeking security from the banned Ranvir Sena, a private army army of upper caste landlords, in the aftermath of charges of sexual misconducts against him filed by the daughter of an ex-IPS officer.

Das, saying he feared threat to his life from the Sena chief Brahmeshwar mukhia who currently rots in Patna's Beur Jail, demanded additional security for himself and transfer of mukhia to Delhi's Tihar Jail.

"Because of stern actions taken by me against the Sena activists in Arwal and other districts, they have threatened to eliminate me. The allegations of sexual misconduct against me is also the brainchild of the Ranvir Sena in an attempt to destroy me socially and professionally," Das said while demanding slapping of POTA against the banned outfit.

A 1994 batch IPS officer, Das, denying the allegations of sexual exploitations leveled by Shabnam Sinha, the daughter of late IPS officer Prabhat Kumar Sinha, said she was a pawn in the hands of Ranvir Sena and there was no truth in her charges against him.

On Wednesday, the police headquarters in Patna, okayed departmental proceedings against Das after the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha sent his files to the Home department.
