Governor R. S. Gavai and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in Patna on Sunday, paid their tributes to the nation's first president Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his 122nd birth anniversary by placing garlands at his memorial at Rajendra Ghat and Rajendra Chowk near the Raj Bhawan.
Both Governor and the CM first placed garlands at the statue of Deshratn Rajendra Babu at the Rajendra Chowk at 10:00 am before proceeding for Rajendra Ghat where they, along with a host of other leaders, paid their respects to the man who rose from an extremely humble beginning only to occupy the highest chair in the nation.
Most major political parties also hold social events to mark Dr. Prasad's anniversary.
At Sadaqat Ashram, the Congress Party celebrated the life and philosophy of the nation's first President by holding a prayer and talking about his contribution to the Indian history.
At Bihar Economic Studies Institute, former Chief Minister Dr. Jagannath Mishra said Dr. Prasad was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and had played a very important role in India's struggle for independence.
At a function organized by the Chitragupta Samiti at Bihar Vidyapeeth, Justice Prem Shankar Sahay, former Chief Secretary Laxmeshwar Dayal, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, Jainarayan Sahay, Dr. M.M.P. Srivastava and a number of prominent leaders and citizens paid their tributes to Dr. Prasad.
