Governor Inaugurates Ophthalmologic Conference in Patna

Governor R. S. Gavai, while inaugurating the Fourth Bihar Ophthalmologic Society annual conference in Patna, 'Antarjyoti 2006', an event dedicated to late Dr. Anjani Kishore Prasad, said like polio and chicken pox, the eye specialists should vow to eradicate blindness and go to villages where patients do not have adequate facilities for proper eye care.
"People take their ability to see for granted until their visions start to get worse. If timely treated, they can have perfect vision till the late years of their lives," the Governor said.
Eminent eye specialists Dr. Nagendra Prasad lamented the sense of apathy among the people of Bihar towards modern and latest techniques in the area of eye care in terms of their clinic and cosmetic values and asked them to give laser surgery and other new techniques a chance to improve their eyesights.
More than 200 eye specialists from across the nation are participating in the three-day event during which advantages of early detection for glaucoma, cataract, and other eye-related malady would be highlighted.
On Friday, the doctors vowed to go to villages and small towns and hold eye camps to attract those who cannot afford to go to big cities and get treatment for their problems.
The doctors also paid rich tribute to Dr. Prasad who, after a prolonged battle with cancer, succumbed to the deadly disease leaving behind a rich collection of writing that he penned during his fight with cancer.
