Non-Bailable Arrest Warrant Against Sadhu Yadav

Patna: February 14, 2006

A special Vigilance court in Patna, on Monday, issued a non-bailable warrant against the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP and the brother of former Chief Minister Mrs. Rabri Devi, Sadhu Yadav, for his alleged role in the multi-crore rupees flood relief scam, Vigilance Director General Neelmani said.

"We have irrefutable evidences against Mr. Yadav that he received Rs. 6 lakh from the flood relief scam key accused Santosh Jha. His explanation about the transfer of money to his State Bank of India account was found to be entirely untrue and full of contradictions that were discovered during the course of investigation," Neelmani said.

An alert for Yadav's arrest has been sent to the Director General of Police (DGP) of all states, he said. Furthermore, all major airports and railway stations have also been alerted and told to be in the lookout of the RJD MP who may try to leave the country to evade arrest, he said.

It may be recalled that last December, the Vigilance Bureau had sought clarification from Sadhu Yadav about the transfer of Rs. 6 lakh in his account by Santosh Jha. At that time he had said that the money was in lieu of a car, Opal Astra, that he had sold to Jha. That car, he had said in his deposition, was bought by him from a man in Delhi identified as Sumit Jaina for a price of Rs. 1 Lakh.

When a Vigilance investigative team did some digging in New Delhi, it turned out not only there is no record of any transaction between Jaina and Sadhu Yadav, Jaina had been running from law for a long time after conning several banks and other lenders to the tune of several crores of rupees.

Sources on the condition of anonymity said that Sadhu Yadav may have got a much larger cut in the Rs.17 crore flood relief scam and an intensive scrutiny of his involvement based on the statement of other accused in the case is currently underway.

The Bureau is also looking into the relationship between Sadhu Yadav and Jaina, they said.

Several accused in the scam have already been arrested including Jha, former Patna District Magistrate (DM) Gautam Goswami, Mukteshwar Prasad, Sanjay Jha, Amitabh Arun and many others.

Because he is also a Member of the Parliament, the Lok Sabha is also being notified of the non-bailable arrest warrant issued against Sadhu Yadav, Neelmani said.
