Deputy CM in UK; Lauds Roles of Bihar Web Sites

Manchester, UK: June 3, 2006

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, during his first stop at his 3-nation tour in the UK on Friday, met with a group of doctors hailing from Bihar and asked them to come up with plans and ideas to improve health care facilities in Bihar.

"We had a long discussion with Mr. Modi who not only assured us of all the help needed to improve the health sector in Bihar; he was also very appreciative of the roles being played by Bihar-specific web sites like PatnaDaily.Com and BiharTimes in the rebuilding process of Bihar," Dr. Rajay Narain of UK told Punyatma Sharan, PatnaDaily political consultant and a longtime acquaintance of Modi and other political leaders who were part of the students' movement led by Loknayak Jai Prakash Narain during the dark days of the Emergency in the '70s.

Highlighting the steps taken by the NDA government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Modi, who met with the Bihari doctors in Manchester, said his government was committed to improve health sector in Bihar and for that the roles of NRI doctors could not be underestimated.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader exhorted the medical practitioners to return to their roots and serve Bihar in any way possible to improve the condition of the state.

Modi was accorded a warm welcome by Dr. Anjani Kumar who lauded the steps taken by the Nitish government to change the scenario of Bihar. Dr Madan Gupta also praised the new government for taking steps to improve the image of Bihar. Dr Ruban Prasad, in his dialog with the Deputy Chief Minister, appealed to the NDA government to take additional steps to improve the health infrastructure in the state for the NRI doctors to be able to return to their roots.

Dr. Rajay Narain exhorted the doctors present in the meeting to chalk out health projects to improve the conditions of the not-so-privileged section of Bihar while also asking the Deputy Chief Minister to make the state government web site more interactive with a special section on health for the NRI doctors to be able to provide their input.

Among others who were present in the meeting included Dr Sanjay Arya, Dr P. K. Jain, Dr Rajesh Kumar, Dr. Das and Dr. Mittal.

Modi is also scheduled to visit Italy and Canada before returning to Bihar.
