Robbery Committed at Allahabad Bank in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur: March 18, 2006

Armed criminals in Muzaffarpur district, on Friday, committed robbery at the Allahabad Bank extension located within the Nitishwar Ayurvedic Medical College campus under Mithanpura police station and got away with nearly Rs. 1.5 lakh in cash, the police said.

DSP Arvind Kumar Gupta, while talking to reporters, said that four armed criminals entered the bank at around 2:10 pm and immediately took the customers and bank employees hostage at gun points. After snatching the cash drawer key from a cashier, the robbers then went on to empty the coffers while threatening to kill the hostages if they tried to raise any alarm.

As the robbers tried to unlock the vault, they heard the footsteps of approaching students forcing them to dash for the exit. While two ran out from the front door, the other two took to the back door while running on foot towards Babanbigha Road.

A Special Task Force has launched massive raids in Tinkothia, Mushahari and other areas in the district and has taken six persons in its custody on the grounds of suspicion.

Incidentally, the bank had no security guard and the police did not even know that a bank existed in the college campus.
