Three Children Brutally Murdered in Election War in Jamui

Jamui: March 21, 2006

Panchayat elections in Bihar lived up to its negative reputation as goons of an opposing candidate in Jamui butchered three innocent children of a prospecting mukhia candidate after the woman, Uma Devi, refused to relent to the alleged pressure of the incumbent mukhia Krishnanand Yadav.

According to the report, criminals allegedly hired by Krishnand Yadav in Islampur village under Chandradeep police station in Jamui district, on Sunday night, tricked Nepali Yadav, the husband of Uma Devi, to open the door of their house. As soon as the door opened, criminals with knives rushed into the house and took the couple's three young children aged between 18 months and 7 years into their custody.

"We told you to pull out from the mukhia race but you didn't listen to us; now pay the price of it," the criminals said as reported by Nepali Yadav in his FIR.

The criminals then took the children (Kajal Kumar, 18 months; Mukesh Kumar, age 5; and Vikas Kumar, age 7) to a nearby field and ripped the guts of children with knives while also slitting their throats, the report said.

While Mukesh and Vikas were already dead when their bodies were recovered, Kavita died at a hospital in Jamui while receiving medical treatment.

A blood-stained knife was recovered from the crime scene.

The police immediately arrested the night guard Surendra Yadav who had talked Nepali Yadav into opening his house door, and a cousin of Krishnanand Yadav on charges of committing multiple murders. Raids are on to apprehend Krishnanand and others named in the FIR.

The bodies of the children were sent to Jamui hospital for autopsies and an FIR was lodged against Krishnanand and a number of his close associates in the case. Security has been beefed up in the area to prevent any retaliatory actions.
