Bihari Products to be Promoted at Delhi Fair

Patna: November 5, 2006

Fourteen self-help groups from various districts in Bihar would participate in the two-week long Saras Mela at Delhi's Pragati Maidan where they would showcase quintessential Bihari items like sattu, pickles, different types of 'baris', papads, makhana, and handicraft in an attempt to popularize the products in other parts of the country.

The fair opens on November 14 and concludes on November 27.

Nearly all participants are self-employed small-scale industrialists who supply their products to all districts in Bihar as well as in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and the bordering towns of Nepal, Rural Development deputy secretary Sadat Hasan Mintu said in Patna on Saturday.

The government was making all arrangements for a successful display of Bihar products while also bearing the costs involved in travel and transportation of their products to Delhi, Mintu said.
