Sweltering Heat Keeps Patna'ites Indoor

Patna: April 1, 2007

As the temperature soared to 39.7° C (103.5° F) on Sunday, life came to a virtual standstill in Patna as most business places bore a barren look with people choosing to stay indoor in the comfort of fans and air-conditioners.

Being a Sunday and schools and offices closed, it appeared the entire city had shut down and except for the die-hard rally-goers and protestors that dot the city crossing's irrespective of the weather conditions, no one else appeared to be brave enough to venture in the scorching sun.

At Patna Zoological garden, animals did not look to enthused either.

Zoo officials, to keep the lethargic and weary-looking animals cool, hosed them with cool water as the administration made arrangements to install air-coolers in their cages.

Number of visitors at the zoo also remained minimal on Sunday.
