Hardcore Maoist Extremist Captured in Sitamarhi

Patna: April 2, 2007

Sitamarhi police on Monday, during the massive combing operation undertaking in the district following last weeks deadly Maoist attack in Riga village, nabbed notorious Maoist leader Shivchandra Paswan from Barahi village under Riga police station, Sitamarhi Superintendent of Police (SP) M. R. Nayak said.

Paswan was one of the hundreds of Maoists who was involved in the attack on a bank and a police station besides having been involved in a number of other such attacks including the ones in Puranhia and Madhubani a few years back, the SP said.

The police has now a much better picture of the attack as Paswan, during his interrogation, gave a detailed account of how arms were smuggled in Riga days before the seize and how all the area commanders kept in touch with each other using Chinese-made Motorola walkie-talkies.

Meanwhile, the government has asked all district jail officials to make a list of all hardcore Maoist ultras already in prisons and transfer them to the high-security Bhagalpur Jail.
