Radio Mirchi Comes to Patna

Photo by Shashi UttamHighly popular private FM radio station Radio Mirchi, after attaining unprecedented success in big metros like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and dozens of other cities, arrived in Patna on Monday amidst much fanfare with famous film actor Manoj Bajpayee and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi getting the honor of turning the switch on in the presence of several top executives and radio jockeys.

The round-the-clock radio station will be geared towards the people of Bihar and that would be reflected by its programming schedule and announcer who would not feign accents as if they are from other parts of the country, said the Chief Operating Officer of the Entertainment Network India Limited (ENIL), the parent company of the Radio Mirchi.

The event was organized at the Hotel Maurya in Patna where both Bajpayee and Modi arrived in a rickshaw. While Bajpayee turned on the station feeder, the Deputy Chief Minister adjusted the dial to 98.3FM to broadcast the very first program aired in Patna by the Radio Mirchi.

Others present on the occasion included the ENIL Chief Executive Officer Nandan Srinath, Patna station director Mandar Patwardhan, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Ramkripal Yadav and all six announcers selected to cover the wall-to-wall coverage of the radio station.

Photo by Shashi Uttam"I grew up on radio programs including Vividh Bharti, Radio Ceylon, and Radio Nepal and I am so glad that after a long hiatus, the radio is once again becoming a mainstream source of information, entertainment, and learning," Bajpayee said in his speech.

Besides providing entertainment news, film gossips, and songs, Radio Mirchi in Patna will also apprise the commuters of traffic situation in the state capital at brief intervals, Patwardhan said.

Keeping in view of the local culture and characteristics, the radio station will feature six announcers who will cover various programs throughout the day.

Radio Jockey (RJ) Akriti will kicking off the day at 7:00 am with the variety show dubbed as 'Hello Patna' that will continue till 11:00 am at which time Anjali will takeover with her program 'Khubsoorat', a show geared towards women,.

Between 2 and 5:00 pm, Shashi will present a feature called 'Totally Filmi' after which Shubhra will thrill Patna'ites with her presentation of movie songs until 9:00 pm.

Between 9:00 and 11:00 pm Akanksha will present 'Purani Jeans' – a show featuring golden oldies, Patwardhan said.

At 11:00 pm Anand will take over to present 'Dil Chahta Hai', a program during which the listeners will be able to call in their requests for their favorite songs.

Mixed songs will be played all night long till 5:00 am after which religious bhajans and songs will be played till 7:00 am, officials said.
