CM Holds High Level Meeting with Bihar Top Cops

Photo by Shashi UttamIn a meeting of Bihar's top policemen and bureaucrats, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Wednesday, said a special fund will be made available for various schemes to enforce law and order in the state including improving the police communication, security at all jails, and building of watch towers to monitor activities within district prisons.

The Chief Minister said that while police is expected to be tough with criminals, he also expected them to be more people-oriented and sympathetic to the cause of ordinary citizens.

"There has been a marked improvement in the law and order situation in the state in last 15 years but we have a long way to go. We must rehabilitate the image of policemen by earning the trust of common people if we want to succeed in our mission," said Kumar.

CM holds meeting with senior policemen. Photo by Shashi UttamIt was also decided to increase the number of Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) jawans in Bihar from 5,000 to 8,000.

Kumar appealed to all SPs to ensure speedy trial for all hardcore criminals in their districts and also talked about misconceptions surrounding the new Police Act.

The meeting was held at the meeting room at Patna Secretariat and was attended by Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Superintendents of Police (SPs), Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah, Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha, Chief Secretary A. K. Chowdhary, ADG Abhayanand, IG (Headquarters) Anil Sinha, and a number of other senior officials.
