Congress Leader Tells Nitish Government to Hush
Patna: April 6, 2007
Congress general secretary and state in-charge Digvijay Singh, on Friday, launched a scathing attack on the Nitish government saying it needs to quit blaming the UPA government at the Center for all the woes in Bihar saying the NDA government had failed on all fronts and was misleading the public by making a host of false promises.
"Whether it is irregularities in the BPL list or the consistent rise in prices of essential commodities, it is the Nitish government that is to be blamed. The Chief Minister needs to stop blaming the UPA government that is giving more central helps to Bihar than any other government in the past," Singh said at a press conference in Phulwarisharif.
Shifting the previous NDA government at the Center, the Congress leader said that because of poor policy adopted by the Vajpayee government, the country today is facing the problem of high prices.
"Nitish Kumar was a part of the previous government so he has no moral authority to blame the UPA government for today's rising prices," Singh said.
On Supreme Court's recent decision to order a stay on reservation for OBC in institutes of higher learning, Digvijay Singh called it 'unconstitutional' and anti-backward castes. "We will challenge the Supreme Court on this issue and make sure reservation in these institutes are restored," he said.
The Congress leader, speaking about the indiscretion in the BPL list, while not refuting the allegations by the Nitish government that the list was in fact prepared during the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) regime, advised the Chief Minister to fix the list first before blaming the RJD or UPA government.
On filmmaker Prakash Jha's land allocation case, Singh said Congress had no animosity toward Jha. "We have problem with the way lands in prime locations were sold to the filmmaker at dirt cheap prices," he said.
