Railways Fails to Check Robbery in Trains; Pataliputra Express Robbed

Patna: April 6, 2007

Armed with pistols and knives, over half a dozen criminals on Patna-Hatia 8622 Down Pataliputra Express on Friday evening robbed the passengers of their valuables and got away with several lakh rupees in booty, railway officials at Patna Junction said.

As reported, the criminals, posing as passengers, pulled out pistols and knives as soon as the train left Patna Saheb station at around 4:00 pm.

One passenger, a resident of Jamui, was beaten by the criminal when he showed hesitance in parting with his money and cell phone.

At Banka Ghat Halt, the criminals jumped off the running train but one of them was caught by the passenger who was brutally beaten up by the angry passengers before being handed over to the authorities.

The police expect to make more arrests in the case.
