Bank of Baroda, Dak Bungalow Branch, Gutted in Fire
Patna: April 7, 2007
A fierce fire believed to be caused by faulty electrical wires on early Saturday morning reduced the Bank of Baroda Dak Bungalow Road branch in Patna to ashes with an estimated loss of over several lakh rupees, officials said.
After more than three hours of battle with the blaze involving four fire trucks, the fire was brought under control and contained from spreading to other buildings.
All bank documents including cash, computer equipment, and furniture were gutted in the fire, bank officials said.
The fire, apparently caused by a short circuit, started at around 4:00 am. When the smoke started to bellow out of one of the windows, the Home Guard jawans on duty informed the police.
Within minutes, fire trucks arrived as did the bank officials, Patna District Magistrate B. Rajendra, and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan.
With a gas station located adjacent to the bank, the firefighters battled to ensure the flames did not spread in other buildings. After more than three hours, the fire was brought under control though not before the entire office was completely destroyed.
One Home Guard jawan was treated for minor injury caused by smoke inhalation.
