Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, while inaugurating the national convention of All India Peace and Solidarity Organization (AIPSO) at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall in Patna on Saturday, said the time was ripe for India and Pakistan to unify to stand up to the 'bullies likes the United States of America and other western countries'.

"Even the Pakistanis are now openly saying that if the two Germanys can unite, why can not India and Pakistan become one nation," the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader said adding the developed nations did not want other countries to unite in their devious desire to maintain their superpower status in the world.

"America killed the Iraqi president Saddam Hussain just to show the world who's the boss and whoever stood up against it will face the same consequences," Yadav said.

India and Pakistan should open a line of dialog to debate the possibility of becoming one nation, the RJD leader said.

Others who spoke on the occasion included the Central ministers Mani Shankar Aiyar, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Sitaram Yechuri, Ram Kripal Yadav, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, Badrinarayan Lal and a number of other leftist leaders.

Though the convention was supposed to be an all-party meeting to discuss world peace, from the very get go it carried the air of a Communist Party meeting that urged all non-capitalist countries including Iran, Iraq, and Cuba to join force in countering the 'American imperialism'.
