Senior IPS Officer Suspended for Power Abuse

Following a departmental investigation, the Bihar government, on Tuesday, suspended IPS officer H. N. Deva, for misusing his position when he traveled to Bangalore last year on a railway pass belonging to DSP Arshad Zaman.
Home Secretary Afzal Amanullah, confirming the suspension of Deva, the Bihar Military Police commandant in Katihar, saying the senior police officer did indeed illegally use the railway pass of Zaman. "The probe has proved charges against Deva and the government has issued orders to suspend him," he said.
Deva, a 1993 batch IPS officer, was caught traveling on Zaman's pass and was arrested by the Bangalore railway police on August 30, 2005. He was arrested and fined Rs. 3,700.
He was later released after he furnished a bond of Rs. 25,000.
Authorities are also looking into Zaman's involvement in the case as they try to find out how his railway pass ended up with Deva.
The government had ordered a probe into the matter. Amanullah said Zaman has also been asked to explain under what circumstances he had given his pass to Deva. Zaman, who is the DSP, BMP (Headquarters), may also face action in the matter.
