Stolen Items from Papiya Ghosh's House Presented in Court
Patna: April 10, 2007
The police in Patna on Tuesday, in the fast track court of judge Om Prakash, presented the recovered items that were earlier stolen from the house of Professor Papiya Ghosh on the night she and her elderly housekeeper Malti Devi were brutally murdered.
The police, on Tuesday, also presented Harendra Rai and Riki Kumar, two witnesses in the case who identified the three accused Shankar, Manohar, and Ashish, already in police custody.
Rai, in his deposition, said that the police came to his house on December 15, 2006 and asked him to unlock the rooms that were being rented by Ashish and Manohar.
Upon the search of the flat, the police recovered several items that had been stolen from Professor Papiya Ghosh's house. Both Ashish and Manohar were arrested during the raid, Rai said in his testimony.
Riki Kumar said that he was also present during the police raid and the arrests of Ashish and Manohar.
"The police recovered many of the stolen items from the flat and made a list of them in front of me," Kumar said.
The court will reconvene on Wednesday.
Papiya Ghosh, a Patna University history professor, was stabbed to death on the night of December 2 at her residence in Pataliputra Colony in Patna. Her maid Malti Devi was also killed in similar manner.
The police have maintained robbery was the main motive behind the double murder.
