Businessman's Murder Spurs Road Block, Riot in Danapur

Patna: April 11, 2007

Hundreds of angry protestors in Danapur on Wednesday blocked the road and damaged over half a dozen vehicles in response to the murder of a potato trader Gopal Sao who was gunned down last Sunday evening by unidentified assailants.

Demanding adequate compensation for the victim's family, the protestors burnt tires near the Ram-Janaki temple on Danapur-Gandhi Maidan Road and Marshall Bazaar crossing causing major roadblock for a couple of hours.

Danapur DSP Pramod Kumar Mandal and police station in-charge Bachcha Singh rushed to the troubled spot to size up the situation. After minor use of force, the police was able to disperse the rioters.

Five men were taken into custody and charged for inciting a riot, vandalizing vehicles, and terrorizing innocent by-standers and daily commuters.

The police are yet to make any arrest in the murder of Gopal Sao.
