Protest over Abduction of 6-year old Boy

Patna: April 13, 2007

Hundreds of protestors on Friday blocked the Ashok Raj Path and Ganga Bridge to protest against the abduction of Ankit, the six-year old son of a grocery store owner in Patna City under Alamganj police station, who went missing Thursday afternoon soon after coming out of his school.

As reported, Ankit, a student of St. Paul School, was seen being lured by two men on Thursday afternoon outside the school building.

Manoj Kumar Sinha, the father of the victim, suspecting the worse, filed a report with the Alamganj police station on Thursday night.

Ankit's mother runs a beauty parlor from her home.

The family denies having received any ransom call saying they had no enmity with anyone.

Protestors, demanding immediate recovery of the missing boy, accused the government of being soft on criminals and giving a rise to abduction cases in Bihar.

After nearly three hours of tire-burning and anti-police slogans, the crowd dispersed at the assurance of DSP Ramashankar Rai who said Ankit would be recovered within 24 hours.

While raids are being conducted at various places, so far there has been no sign of Ankit. "We have few leads in the case and we are following up on each one of them," Rai said.
