Police Claims Breakthrough in Ankit Abduction Case
Patna: April 14, 2007
The police in Patna, on Saturday, claimed to have gotten a major breakthrough in the Ankit abduction case zeroing in on the family servant Balram Paswan who was last seen picking up the six-year old boy from his school three days ago, officials in Patna said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan said Paswan, a resident of Muzaffarpur, was working at the house of Manoj Kumar Sinha, the father of Ankit, as a servant. Last week he took a week off saying he wanted to visit his family in Muzaffarpur.
Paswan, however, remained in Patna and, with the help of his friend Sanjay Rajak, hatched the plan to abduct Ankit.
After picking up Ankit from his school last Thursday, Paswan took him to a sweet shop owned by his uncle Surya Paswan in Buddha Colony.
From there, the kidnappers took Ankit to Chhapra where both Balram and Sanjay were spotted.
On Saturday, the police raided Paswan's home in Muzaffarpur and took his father Baidyanath Paswan into custody.
Raids were also conducted in Chhapra but the police failed to make arrests as both Paswan and Rajak had already left the town for an unknown destination, the police said.
The police have also taken Surya Paswan into custody to exert pressure on the kidnappers.
"We have the pictures of the criminals and we are leaving no stone unturned in recovering Ankit and reunite him with his family members," the SSP said.
