Rabri Concerned about Growing Crimes in Bihar
Patna: April 15, 2007
Former Chief Minister and the current leader of the opposition in the state Assembly Rabri Devi, on Sunday, expressed her grave concerns over 'growing crime' in the state under the Nitish government and asked the Governor to send a report on Bihar's crime situation to the Center.
"During the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) regime, we had only a few crime incidents yet the opposition had dubbed the entire RJD rule as 'jungle raj'. Now that murder, rape, kidnapping, and robbery is taking place every day, what kind of adjective we need to give to the Nitish government?" she asked.
"People of Bihar are thoroughly frustrated with the collapse of law and order under the NDA government and are waiting for it to be out of power so sanity could be restored in the state," the former CM said.
Rabri Devi, who is widely perceived as the voice of her husband and party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, said that NDA leaders were behind all the abductions in the state, a charge widely leveled against her own government prior to its loss in the last Assembly elections.
"In this year only, more than 900 people have been abducted. Some were killed while others were recovered only after paying hefty ransom to the abductors. Figures for robbery, rape, and murders are not any better for the Nitish government," the RJD leader said.
NDA leaders, however, dismiss Rabri's accusations. "As we inch towards establishing the rule of law in the state, Lalu-Rabri clan becomes more desperate and concocts ridiculous numbers not supported by any data," said a senior Janata Dal (U) leader.
Earlier, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Ranjan Yadav, the former friend of Lalu Prasad Yadav, lashed out at the RJD saying its leaders were desperate to grab power by any means and restore gunda raj in Bihar as before.
"Try as they much; people of Bihar will never allow Lalu and Rabri to occupy power in the state again," Yadav had said.
