Patna: April 17, 2007

The state capital is gearing up to welcome Vice President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat who is scheduled to arrive in Patna on April 21 to attend a seminar named after late Bihar leader Thakur Prasad at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall.

While security of the Vice President remains the main concern for the district officials, directives have been issued to the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) to clean up the city as well as its acts by ensuring the entire state capital is free from any filth that the Patna'ites have learnt to live with.

Electricity Board, Water Board, hospitals, and fire departments have also been put on alert to ensure uninterrupted services to make the occasion a success and free from any hitch, District Magistrate B. Rajendra said.

The last time the Vice President was in Patna was on July 2-3, 2006 when he attended a meeting sponsored by the national parliamentarian association and inaugurated a scheme for free medicines at government hospitals for poor people.
